Concerns regarding cyber and cell network infrastructure increase.
Thousands of mobile phone customers had no service Thursday morning as cell service providers experienced network outages. Those affected could not place calls, send texts, or use the internet from their phones. Providers encouraged customers to use WIFI calling features in the interim. AT&T reported the majority of the outage, though some Verizon and T-Mobile customers were impacted.
Investigations are underway by the Federal Communications Commission, the FBI, and the Department of Homeland Security. The White House announced that federal agencies have contacted the service providers, but have not yet discovered the cause of the outages.
On Wednesday, one of the largest healthcare technology companies in the United States experienced a cyber attack that caused widespread outages and resulted in nationwide delays in pharmacy prescription processing. The company handles the medical records and billing for approximately one-third of U.S. patients, so the disruption impacted the ability of pharmacies to process insurance coverage and fill patients’ prescriptions. The company has not given a timeline for a return to service, but the outage is anticipated to last until Friday.
As the Lord Leads, Pray with Us…
- For FCC officials as they investigate the cell service outage.
- For U.S. cyber security personnel as they seek to secure networks from attacks.
- For wisdom for the heads of federal agencies as they work with leaders in the private sector regarding technology and infrastructure.
